Because we are often asked (and asked the same questions ourselves) "what do I need in addition to my trike?" To really get the most out of your new trike, and to protect it as an investment you should consider purchasing the following accessories:
| Trike Starter Kit — Essential Accessories: |
| Most of the items on this list can be purchased from Aircraft Spruce or Lockwood Aviation. We sell MicroAir radios, Lynx intercom equipment, and Air Hog trike covers. |
| Other Recommended Accessories: |
| Trailer This is not an accessory we sell but is at the top of our list of must have triking accessories. Part of what you are buying in a trike is its portability so take advantage of it. After you get to know your home airport well load your trike up and start exploring new territory. Pictured to the right is our trailer with two XT-912s loaded and ready to travel. This trailer doubles as our hanger. Our trailer is a 23' Homesteader Hercules and we have been very pleased with it. If you want a covered trailer the interior length needs to be at least 19' if you want to accommodate the wing's) and 85" wide to accommodate the trike itself. If you plan to mount the wing outside the trailer then you only need an interior length of 9' for the trike. If you want an uncovered trailer consider a snow mobile trailer. They are inexpensive, wide, and made to load and offload vehicles. For other trailering examples click here. | .jpg) |
| Radio We believe the radio is an essential safety item. On our trip out west we visited a ton of GA airports and found the radio, or the lack thereof, to be their biggest beef with respect to ultralights. We fly slower than the GA pilots and it is in our best interest that they know where we are relative to the airport and traffic pattern. We use the MicroAir 760 VHF radio, which is a panel mounted unit. This radio, combined with a mast mounted antennae and good intercom system provides outstanding communications both air-to-air and pilot-to-passenger. Precision Windsports can deliver your new aircraft with a complete Microair/Lynx intercom system at a very competitive price. Click here for the specs. Call us for details. |
|
| Intercom The intercom system, consisting of headsets and helmets, is the other half of your radio system. You can have an intercom system without a radio but you can't use the radio without the intercom system. There are a lot of intercom systems for ultralights out there but none of them can compare with the Lynx system. With the Lynx system and MicroAir radio you will find GA pilots complimenting you on how good you "comms" are. This system provides communications quality that equals and often exceeds the quality of GA communications systems costing hundreds of dollars more. Precision Windsports can deliver your new plane with the communications package completely installed and ready to go. All you have to do is get in and fly. Call us for details. |

| Ballistic Recovery System (BRS) The Ballistic Recovery System is like an insurance policy -- a life insurance policy. AirBorne aircraft are among the safest aircraft ever built. But even so, if you lose an engine over terrain that provides no safe landing sites, or another aircraft strikes you making your aircraft uncontrollable, your only option is the BRS -- if you have one. BRS systems cost either $2895 or $3395 (plus shipping and installation) depending on the BRS model (which is driven by the gross weight of the aircraft). Is your life worth that much money? Ours is. Both of our 912s have BRS systems installed. Precision Windsports is an authorized BRS dealer. Click here for more information. | |
| Tie Down System (The Claw) We trikers frequently fly out of grass fields, which means that is where we often tie down. When tying down in a grass field there is no better system than "the Claw." It is compact, designed exclusively for aircraft, and will hold 3600 lbs to the ground. Once we were caught in a swiftly moving thunderstorm forcing us to tie-down in wet grass. When the winds (35-40 mph) hit us, one of the tie-down strap clamps actually bent under the load but the Claw held fast. A screw tie-down would have pulled out of the wet soil but not the Claw.
